Thomas Cai

Biography

As a student, I always loved math. That’s why I got a degree in Applied Mathematics from UC Berkeley, and then went on to get a master’s in Mathematics from San Jose State. But as a TA at San Jose State, I discovered a passion for sharing my love of mathematics with others.

I love working with passionate students and seeing them work to understand a concept until the moment where it “clicks”. I have worked with students on subjects ranging from Algebra 1 to Calculus.

I believe that that understanding why something works is more valuable than memorizing a formula. When students see the reasoning behind a concept, they can apply that reasoning to other problems and can understand the beauty and elegance of mathematics.

Outside of tutoring, I love reading, playing video games, and solving all kinds of puzzles.
