Biography

Even as a child, I’ve always been curious about language. Following that curiosity, I went on to double major in French and German at Drew University, where I also tutored both subjects at my school’s tutoring center. After graduation, I moved abroad to work with French students on their English language skills. (I can confirm that the bread is fantastic in France, and I miss it every day!) After continuing to work in K–12 classrooms in the U.S. as a substitute teacher, I decided to shift gears and prioritize the one-on-one instruction that AJ Tutoring provides.

During the decade I’ve spent learning languages, I’ve heard language learning compared to Sisyphus pushing his rock up the mountain: seemingly impossible or never-ending. While our learning journeys can span a lifetime if we so choose, our “rock” doesn’t have to keep rolling back down the mountain. Tutoring can help students work through difficult terrain while developing the confidence to tackle challenges they once thought were impossible.

I strive to guide students toward their “aha!” moments by breaking down material in ways that make sense for their individual learning styles. Just as importantly, I want students to recognize their own progress. Sometimes that means taking a moment to look back and appreciate how far they’ve come. After all, what’s the point of climbing the mountain if we can’t appreciate the view?

Outside of tutoring, you’ll find me paying tribute to the family rabbits, painting my nails, trying to learn another language, reminiscing about French bakeries, and, naturally, petting the rabbits.

Happy Parents and Students

"My tutor was extremely helpful with all kinds of French. My tutor also made fun games to learn how to say different words like a drawing contest and how to say each clothing item."
