William Ennis

Academic and Test Prep Tutor

Biography

I recently graduated with an honors degree in History and a minor in Psychology from the University of the Pacific. During my undergraduate studies, I developed a strong academic focus on Latin American history in the post-World War II era. My primary goal throughout this work was to shed light on lesser-known historical events that continue to shape the region today

In addition to my academic pursuits, I have accumulated over five years of hands-on experience working with students across a wide age range—from elementary to high school—serving as both a tutor and academic coach. Through this work, I discovered a deep passion for education and mentorship, which I hope to eventually turn into a long-term career in teaching. My tutoring approach is shaped by my years of experience providing in-home academic support, allowing me to adapt to each student’s unique learning style and needs. Whether helping a student grasp challenging historical concepts or build critical thinking skills, I strive to create a supportive and engaging learning environment that fosters both confidence and curiosity.

For my undergraduate thesis, I made the unconventional but deliberate decision to present my research in the form of a YouTube video rather than a traditional academic paper. This approach was both a personal challenge and a creative opportunity. I have long believed that one of the biggest hurdles facing the field of history is its lack of effective marketing.

By choosing a video format, I pushed myself to make the material not just informative, but genuinely engaging. This required me to blend scholarly rigor with creative storytelling. I incorporated historical photos, archival footage, interviews, direct quotes from primary sources, and a variety of visual and audio elements to bring the content to life. To maintain the viewer’s interest, I wove in humor, thoughtful tangents, and compelling arguments that contextualized complex topics in a way that felt relatable and accessible.

This project directly reflects my tutoring philosophy, which is rooted in the belief that history should be exciting, relevant, and fun. I strive to move beyond rote memorization and instead inspire students to connect with the stories, people, and ideas that have shaped our world. My goal is not only to teach history but to spark curiosity and passion for the subject in each student I work with.
