Academic and Test Prep Tutor

Biography

When I first moved to the Bay Area, it was to pursue a position as a biochemistry research assistant at Stanford University. The opportunity was both exciting and challenging, as I was able to contribute to cutting-edge scientific research alongside talented and driven colleagues. While I valued the rigor and structure of lab work, I quickly realized that what truly excited me was not just conducting experiments, but sharing and explaining my findings. I found immense satisfaction in breaking down complex scientific concepts and presenting them in a way that others could understand, regardless of their background.

This growing interest in science communication led me to reevaluate my career goals. I realized that while I enjoyed research, my strengths and passions lay more in education and mentorship. As a result, I made the decision to transition into tutoring—a path that would allow me to focus on helping others learn and develop confidence in subjects that often seem intimidating. Joining AJ Tutoring has allowed me to align my love for learning with my passion for teaching, creating a rewarding professional experience.

Before my time at Stanford, I gained valuable teaching experience during my undergraduate years at Johns Hopkins University. There, I worked as a teaching assistant and a team learning leader, helping students navigate challenging coursework in the sciences. These roles gave me a strong foundation in collaborative learning and instructional strategies. More importantly, they taught me how to identify gaps in understanding and adapt my explanations to meet the needs of individual learners. I hope to bring this same level of attentiveness and support to the students I work with at AJ Tutoring.

Beyond academics, I find joy in creative and social outlets that balance my analytical work. In my free time, I love to knit and crochet. I’m also an avid fan of TV shows, especially Korean dramas, which I enjoy watching and discussing with friends.
