Biography

I grew up in the Bay Area, where I attended Menlo School, before heading east to Cornell University to study Environmental Engineering. My time at Cornell gave me a strong foundation
in problem-solving and analytical thinking, but it also taught me the importance of collaboration and creativity. I am currently back in California pursuing my master’s degree in systems
Engineering at UC Berkeley and am thrilled to continue my education close to home. Each step along the way has honed both my mastery over subject material and my approach to learning, which I enjoy sharing through tutoring.

As a former AJ tutoring student, I am excited to give back to the same supportive environment that played an important role in my own education. I began tutoring because I enjoyed breaking down difficult concepts into approachable steps and seeing the “aha” moment when a concept finally clicks. Over the years, I worked as an educator in a variety of contexts:
coaching as a personal trainer, working as a rock-climbing instructor, and serving as a computer science teaching assistant for several years. My broad teaching background enables me to work with a diverse range of students that have a variety of learning styles and needs.

My teaching philosophy is centered around flexibility and adaption; I wholeheartedly believe in tailoring my instruction personally to each student that I work with. AJ tutoring’s 1-on-1 format synergizes well with my teaching style and enables me to focus primarily on clear communication, adaptability, and subject mastery to help my students learn. As an engineer by
training, I enjoy utilizing my depth of knowledge on STEM subjects to teach math, physics, and the SAT because they require a blend of content mastery and problem-solving skills. When
teaching, I place additional emphasis on soft skills that make a real difference on test day such as time management, confident-building, and endurance. I want my students and their families to know that my tutoring is more than just improving scores, it is about equipping students with the skills, discipline, and confidence that will serve them after the test is over.

Outside of tutoring, I love exploring and adventuring; I am an avid traveler, rock climber, and backpacker. I have worked as a dog handler and musher while living on a glacier in Alaska,
trekked to the basecamp of Mount Everest, and solo backpacked across Asia.
