Edward Zhong

My love for learning and curiosity about the world around me have always been a part of who I am. I vividly recall my early academic years at Los Altos High School where I discovered a love for mathematics that has stayed with me ever since. The beauty and elegance of math captivated my heart and, mixed with my interest in programming, inspired me to pursue a degree in computer science at UC Santa Barbara.

During my college years, my passion for software and technology grew, and I set my sights on becoming a software engineer. My studies also sparked a newfound interest in history and philosophy, giving me a deeper understanding and appreciation of the world.

One of the most rewarding experiences in my academic journey has been collaborating with fellow students to learn and understand new concepts. I spent many late nights around a whiteboard with friends, scribbling increasingly illegible diagrams in a quest for knowledge, and my joy at finally understanding a complex idea was unparalleled. It is this joy, as much as the knowledge itself, that I want to spread.

I believe that every student has the potential for success, and as a tutor it is my mission to help them achieve their goals. Many students rely on rote memorization of textbook materials, but this approach to learning often results in shallow comprehension and misses the intricate beauty and elegance inherent in their studies. Instead, my objective is to help students grasp the underlying intuitions and intentions behind each concept, building a strong foundation that will serve them well as they encounter increasingly challenging material. By fostering a deeper understanding, I help students leave feeling confident and capable, ready to tackle whatever comes next. I believe strongly in the transformative power of education and the impact it can have on a person’s life. Being a part of a student’s journey to success is a privilege that I take seriously, and I am eager to continue helping students reach their full potential.

In my leisure time, you can often find me on the snowy mountain slopes, reading strange philosophy, or maybe running whatever interesting machine learning models I’ve stumbled upon.
