Biography

I come from a family where reading books and asking questions is encouraged. As a result I took a great interest in education during high school, and enjoyed challenging courses in literature and mathematics. My goal in going to college was to study great works of philosophy and develop my critical thinking skills. I got to do both of those things at Thomas Aquinas College and graduated with an even deeper appreciation for the intellectual life.

After college, I had the opportunity to teach at a K-8 school for a year. During that time I found I really enjoyed working with kids one-on-one whenever possible, because then I could really focus on teaching the subject material in a way that made sense to the student. For this reason, I knew going forward that I wanted to switch to one-on-one tutoring.

English was my favorite subject in high school. I think the study of language is important and enjoyable, and I’m looking forward to helping other high school students understand things like the structure of poetry and the logic behind literary themes. In college I studied Euclid’s Elements, which gave me an appreciation of geometry I didn’t have in high school. I hope to pass this on to others through tutoring geometry and showing that mathematics is a freeing and valuable aid to independent thinking.

When I am not reading or writing for fun, I love to spend time enjoying my family, playing the piano, going to coffee, and going on long walks and hikes.
