Elizabeth Chung

Academic Tutor

My love of history, literature, and all things to do with reading and writing started at a young age, but through the time and effort of my elementary school teachers, that love became a lifelong desire to learn, grow, and help foster that same passion in others.

I was born and raised in San Jose. I truly adore my city for how diverse and culturally enriching it is; my years of elementary and middle school education were filled with inspiring immigrant narratives, stories of overcoming adversity, and the power we have as global citizens to advocate for a better future.

I graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz, with a Bachelor of Arts in literature. While at UCSC, I found myself tutoring peers both in and outside of my major, and along the way I realized my enthusiasm for helping others to not only succeed in class, but also genuinely find an interest in subjects that involve reading, writing, and research.

My approach with tutoring is based on the principle that with patience, communication, and understanding, anyone can excel, gain confidence in their academic journey, and meet their goals. School anxiety, organizational difficulties, and test-taking nerves are real! As a tutor, I feel it is crucial to help students know that there are many solutions to their struggles, that they aren’t alone, and that we’re here to help them succeed.

When I’m not tutoring or looking over essays, I love playing video games and tabletop RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons. I also love to learn languages!
