Joe Notar

Pre-Calculus Department Head, Test Prep & Academic Tutor

Biography

I have always had a knack for mathematics, but I truly became enamored in junior college, when a wonderful math teacher was passionate, dedicated, and driven to see her students understand the conceptual logic behind mathematics. This passion led me to obtain a BS in mathematics from CSU San Marcos. In addition, I have become a tutor so that I can inspire future math students the way I was inspired.

I tutored throughout high school and college, bringing my enthusiasm about mathematics to both my peers and the younger generations. In my experience any student can succeed with the right combination of motivation, support and hard work. Not all students are the same, and the best part of 1-on1 tutoring is that we can identify the particular combination that will work for your student and tailor the experience to him or her.

I like to help students explore the theoretical concepts behind what they are learning, to move beyond formulas and the often repetitive manipulation of algebraic equations. Doing so helps spark curiosity and interest and facilitates a long term understanding of the subject. One of the biggest rewards is to see a student go from hating or disliking math to actually enjoying the subject, or at least feeling comfortable and confident in confronting it.

Aside from tutoring you can find me taking care of my tropical dart frogs or outside soaking up some sun working in my vegetable garden. I love fresh food and trying new restaurants. I have even been accused of being a foodie!

Happy parents and students.
