Biography

I received my B.S. in chemistry with a certificate in communications (acting) from Purdue University. During my four years as an undergraduate student, I worked in a pharmaceutical drug development lab as a biochemical researcher with several of my peers. Working in a lab together while taking many of the same classes created a collaborative environment where we could switch roles between mentor and mentee to use our strengths, learn from one another, and help each other succeed.

During my senior year of college, I had the opportunity to shadow a chemistry teacher at Cupertino High School — an opportunity that helped solidify my desire to pursue teaching one day. Then, after receiving my degree, I worked in Ohio as a process and software engineer in the semiconductor and battery industry, and I realized that I loved mentoring new hires and interns at the company. It was very fulfilling to watch the people I had trained excel in the lab. Realizing Ohio wasn’t the place for me, I decided it was the perfect time to return home to the Bay Area and pursue my long-time interest in education and tutoring.

I grew up in Cupertino and understand the stress students experience while trying to live up to high academic expectations. I believe in fostering an environment that encourages the student to explore aspects of chemistry and math they find interesting and fun, instead of viewing the subjects as classes to trudge through and complete. There are so many aspects of both subjects that are incredibly fascinating, and I am honored to share my passion with my students.

In my free time, I like to play video games, hang out with my cat Zinc, and perform in community theaters. I also have a passion for software and would love to one day create my own small indie game.

"The adaptability of the tutoring was helpful; my tutor allowed me to work on areas that I wanted to look at more thoroughly."
