Biography

All throughout middle school, high school, and college, I had opportunities to peer tutor students in a variety of classes. I found that I very much enjoyed helping others learn new skills and excel in their academics. After studying psychology at UC Davis, I knew I wanted to continue my career journey in a capacity where I could help others develop their skills and passions. I feel like I found a perfect fit working in education.

I especially enjoy tutoring K-8 students because I believe that these early years in school ultimately set the foundation of later academic experiences. I strive to work with my students to build a solid foundation from which they can continue to grow and succeed, even after our time working together.

In addition to focusing on my students’ academic skills, I aim to develop a warm, supportive environment for them to healthily frame their relationship to failure, allowing them understand that mistakes are expected and part of the learning process. Through one on one individualized work with each student, my goal is to build their trust in themselves and their abilities, so that they can confidently apply what they have learned in our sessions to the classroom and beyond.

I always aspire to be a source of support for my students in their academic journeys, so I encourage students to ask questions and reach out for help if they are struggling. In my work with students, I let them no there are no silly questions, and I am here to support them in whatever way helps them best.

Outside of AJ, you can often find me reading, learning piano, and taking walks. I also love to work on honing my photography skills at local parks and trying new foods with friends and family.

Happy Parents and Students

"The most helpful part of my tutoring was Jamies ability to teach. It gets stuck in my brain. She has me practice my skills in fun ways and guess my numeric devices to use. She's also super funny and nice. (nothing bad to report) "
