Biography

I was born and raised in San Jose. Fun fact: my elementary school, middle school, and high school were all on the same street! Another constant during school was my passion for the sciences, especially biology and chemistry. I enjoyed learning why the world worked the way it did and the little reasons why leaves are green or why ice floats.
I took this passion for chemistry and biology with me to UC Davis, where I recently graduated with a major in Physiology and minor in Public Health. During my time there, I served in a variety of positions from line cook to dental assistant to festival security to president of a fraternity. However, one of my favorite and most rewarding jobs was working as a tutor for UC Davis’s Academics Assistance and Tutoring Center.

Tutoring in both 1-on-1 and group sessions, I had the privilege of meeting students from all different backgrounds. Looking back on my college career, I will always treasure the bonds I formed with my students and co-workers during that time. Having been in these student’s positions before, I know academics can be tough. However, drawing on my own academic and tutoring journeys, I believe learning is an exponential process. Each new piece of knowledge and connection builds upon each other, creating a foundation that spurns further learning. As a tutor, my philosophy is to encourage students to embrace challenges and guide them through this exponential process so they can grow into more capable thinkers and individuals. Ultimately, my goal is to help my students reach their goal, whether it may be to pass that class or get into their college of choice.

Outside of working for AJ Tutoring, I enjoy powerlifting, designing floral bouquets, and going to concerts.

Happy Parents and Students

"I've already recommended AJ to some friends struggling in Chem! They really helped explain why formulas in chemistry exist in a way that was memorable and easy to comprehend."
