Biography

I was born and raised in the Bay Area, and I graduated from Saint Mary’s College of California with a bachelor’s degree in biology with an emphasis in chemistry. Growing up, my main focus was on a wide array of art styles, which included drawing, painting, and ceramics. It wasn’t until middle school that I discovered my interest in science. I realized that I loved learning about the way that the world worked.

All throughout my time at school, I have always been someone that people turned to for help. I found that it was a mutual symbiotic relationship whereby my peers gained knowledge while I gained a deeper understanding by verbalizing my thought process.

I have spent over nine years working as a counselor at a Broadway musical theater camp for kids ranging from the second to the eighth grade. It has been important for me to have a positive attitude, bubbly energy, and encouraging spirit to manage eighty kids in rehearsal, arts and crafts projects, and drama games. I bring this same energy into my tutoring sessions, and before joining AJ Tutoring I had privately tutored students in study skills, trigonometry honors, and chemistry honors.

During school, I struggled to adhere to my teachers’ advice to “split up the work and take breaks in between,” and it wasn’t until much later that I realized I worked best by blocking my time and avoiding distractions. In my tutoring practice, I have been reminded again and again that not everyone learns the same way, and not every approach works for every student. It is important to discover what works for each individual. As a one-on-one tutor, I endeavor to tailor the sessions to each student so that they are able to delve deeper into underlying concepts and enhance their understanding as a whole.

Outside of tutoring, I enjoy watching anime and fictional crime shows, reading a good book, gardening in my backyard, and indulging in my creative side through drawing and painting.
