Biography

I first discovered my passion for education in high school, where I taught dance classes, mentored elementary school students, and served as Vice President of my school’s Biology Olympiad team, leading lessons and practice sessions for my peers. These early experiences showed me how rewarding it is to guide others through challenges and celebrate their progress. In college, I continued to build on that foundation as a Supplemental Instructor for biology and a Resident Advisor, merging my love for teaching with mentorship to help students grow both academically and personally.

I was born and raised in Fremont, California, and earned my Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of California, Riverside. My academic journey was enriched by diverse experiences: serving as a Resident Advisor, conducting research on immune cell function and metabolic health, and completing my EMT certification. These roles reinforced the value of clear communication, adaptability, and empathy—skills I bring into every tutoring session. My own learning experience taught me that curiosity, consistency, and encouragement can transform a daunting subject into a favorite one.

My interest in biology and chemistry began with a fascination for understanding how the human body works at both the molecular and systems level. Over time, I developed a particular appreciation for the way these subjects interconnect with real-world applications in medicine, nutrition, and technology. I enjoy helping students see the bigger picture—how each concept builds toward a deeper understanding of the world around them. It’s especially rewarding to watch students transition from memorizing facts to thinking critically and making connections on their own.

I have worked with students in many settings—from guiding high schoolers through health-focused projects as a mentor for Teens Make Health Happen, to supporting first-year college students as a Resident Advisor, to teaching dance to learners as young as 4 and as experienced as adults in their 50s. These experiences taught me that effective teaching is never one-size-fits-all; it requires understanding each learner’s perspective, meeting them where they are, and fostering a supportive environment that encourages questions and builds confidence.

My tutoring philosophy centers on meeting each student exactly where they are and building a clear, supportive path forward. In the 1-on-1 setting, I take time to understand a student’s learning style, strengths, and areas of uncertainty so I can tailor explanations, pacing, and practice to their needs. I often use active learning strategies—such as guided questioning, analogies, and real-world examples—to help concepts stick, along with tools like practice problems and visual organizers to strengthen retention. I’ve had particular success in helping students overcome test anxiety, fill foundational knowledge gaps, and develop study skills that make them more confident and independent learners.

Outside of tutoring, I enjoy dancing, experimenting with new recipes, and exploring new hiking trails. I also love learning about advances in medicine and public health.
