Ryan Schmiesing

Academic and Test Prep Tutor

Biography

I recently graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a B.S. in General Biology. During my time at LMU, I discovered a genuine passion for teaching through my work as a General Biology Lab Teaching Assistant and volunteer math tutor. I fell in love with the opportunity to share my enthusiasm for biology and mathematics, as well as the privilege of positively impacting other students’ academic experiences. Helping a student move from uncertainty and confusion to that “aha” moment—when they finally understand a difficult concept through their own perspective—is incredibly meaningful to me.

The opportunity to teach students one-on-one allows for even more of these moments, as I can tailor my explanations to fit the framework each student best understands. I know that high school academics and college admissions tests can feel challenging and overwhelming, but I see it as a tutor’s role to help make learning a smooth, engaging, and confidence-building process.

In my free time, I love spending time outdoors (especially skiing) and enjoying meaningful moments with loved ones.

""I also really appreciated its class size. I think it was small enough so everyone could get to ask questions and get the help they needed.""
