Xavier Gacula

Test Prep and Academic Tutor

Biography

Growing up in sunny Los Angeles, I was constantly exposed to a multitude of different cultures and lifestyles, which made my education growing up quite exciting. It was my third grade teacher who first laid out my pathway to teaching when she asked me to tutor a classmate who was on the spectrum. Being on the other side of education has given me joy ever since.

Looking back, it must have been clear to most of my friends, family, and teachers that I was going to be a math teacher. Math was always my best subject, and I would consistently spend time in the classroom tutoring my classmates. I was such a math geek that I loved watching a multitude of math videos on Youtube in my free time.

I attended UC Irvine as a mathematics major, and by my second year of college, I was invited to a program in which I taught undergraduate physics and mathematics while learning pedagogy and research-based teaching methods. After graduation, I spent two years teaching at high schools, including my alma mater. Prior to joining the AJ Tutoring team, I had worked in education for five years. Through my experiences, I have realized that we are constantly learning as educators, and I strive to be the best teacher I can by self-evaluating and exploring new and exciting teaching methods.

When I’m not teaching, I enjoy playing a variety of video games, building computers, and playing volleyball.
