I was born and raised in the beautiful state of Michigan and attended Kalamazoo for college. I decided to major in Biology because I am fascinated by the natural systems of the world. I find that the more I learn about biological systems, the more complex and interesting they become. So much goes into a single breath or the growth of a leaf!
After graduating from Kalamazoo College, I spent two years working as a behavioral therapist. During that time, I worked with kids diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and their families. From this experience, I have grown to appreciate the value of one-on-one mentorship, and the drastic difference it can make for students developing new skills.
I strongly believe in empowerment through education, and I have found that helping individuals satisfy their intellectual curiosity is extremely rewarding. A primary goal of mine is to help students become increasingly independent and curious so that they can chart their own academic and lifelong learning paths.
When I am not tutoring, you can find me running, surfing, or participating in long winded conversations concerning fictional worlds and characters. For example, I think the destruction of the Death Star in Star Wars represents a significant humanitarian disaster that should not be overlooked. At the same time, I respect that the Death Star was a weapon which represented a threat to peace in the galaxy. Moreover, I think silly conversations such as this one are important to have because they encourage people to imagine the world in a complex way while also having fun!
