Mental Health is Important: Supporting Student Well-being

Academic success is intertwined with mental well-being. Recognizing signs of stress and anxiety is crucial. At AJ Tutoring, we prioritize creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable discussing challenges. By integrating mindfulness techniques and promoting open communication, we help students build resilience and confidence.

Compatibility Matters

For a student to find success in their tutoring sessions, it is absolutely important to match them with a tutor who they will be compatible with. Struggling with a particular subject, combating test taking anxiety, or learning new skills can increase the level of anxiety that a student may already be feeling. We emphasize the importance of matching a student to a tutor that will make them feel comfortable and help them to conquer those academic struggles.

Class Size Matters

Our approach is centered on the idea that every student is unique, and their tutoring experience should be personalized to reflect that. Oftentimes, being in large groups can make it difficult for a student to self-advocate leading them to get further behind and develop greater anxiety. If your student struggles with their mental health or becomes easily stressed, then finding a smaller class size or connecting with a 1:1 tutor may be the best approach to support that student.

Mental Health Matters

According to recent studies conducted by the CDC:

Anxiety problems, behavior disorders, and depression are the most commonly diagnosed mental disorders in children. Based on US data from 2022–2023:1

  • 11% of children ages 3-17 had current, diagnosed anxiety (9% of males and 12% of females).
  • 8% of children ages 3-17 had current, diagnosed behavior disorders (10% of males and 5% of females)
  • 4% of children ages 3-17 had current, diagnosed depression (3% of males and 6% of females).
