Anne Piercy

Test Prep Tutor

I am a Los Altos native, and I went on to study computer science and data science at UC Berkeley. One of the greatest takeaways of my academic career was discovering my passion for teaching.

My passion for teaching stems from a genuine excitement to learn and spread both knowledge and enthusiasm with others. This passion started at a very young age: my very first few years of school, I was so excited about everything I learned each day at school that I would come home and make lesson plans and hand write “official” worksheets for my little sister to complete on the material—much to my sister’s and my delight and my parents’ amusement.

Later on, I found an even deeper appreciation for teaching. When in high school, I took college computer science classes. While there, I discovered a community of dedicated individuals at a tutoring center within the school’s library. I had the privilege of developing great relationships with tutors and other students and really enjoyed the positive learning environment. I later started a non-profit for teaching coding in hopes of recreating such an environment for others. Thankfully, through many hours of hard work, the non-profit was able to successfully engage with thousands of students internationally to form a community through group workshops, online tutoring, and personalized one-on-one tutoring.

In addition to this, during this time I was studying for one of my favorite standardized tests: the ACT. I received a perfect super score, and my preparation also led me to get a National Merit Scholarship from my PSAT score. Through studying and tutoring for the ACT I was able to gain valuable insight into what strategies and techniques were beneficial to maximizing my test-taking potential. I enjoy helping my students navigate the testing process and gain a deeper understanding of not only the tests themselves, but also how to take them strategically.

My goal as a tutor is to set my students up for success. I enjoy tailoring sessions to each student’s needs and building off of what he or she already knows in order to skillfully and efficiently reach their academic goals.

In my spare time, I enjoy participating in all water sports, from swimming to surfing to water skiing. I also love to travel.
