Carolina Hernandez

Test Prep and Academic Tutor

I was born and raised in a small town, Corona, in southern california. During my high school years I loved volunteering and began my tutoring career through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. I came in 2017 to the Bay Area to attend UC Berkeley and studied urban studies which combined my love for architecture, landscape architecture, and city planning. In my third year of college I began tutoring online at a Mathnasium to gain more experience tutoring specifically in math and also gain experience working with a large range of children. Here I gained plenty of experience working with students online and eventually transitioned to in person tutoring. At Mathnasium I was able to learn how to assess students in their math level and build personalized learning plans to help students fill in gaps that they may have missed while taking online classes.

I found this especially rewarding and loved working one on one with students and seeing their a-ha moment when figuring out tough topics like long division and fractions. After graduating I right away became the assistant center director of my Mathnasium center and moved away from tutoring and more towards admin work. During this transition I realised I found more joy in one on one tutoring and being able to help and follow students on their academic journey. Here at AJ I am excited to be able to help students through SAT, K-8,algebra, and spanish tutoring.

When I am not tutoring I am usually watching anime shows with my partner, lounging around with my cat Batman, or doing an array of crafts such as journaling, collaging, and painting. I also love cooking and learning new recipes each week, I recently made banana bread and am hoping to try my hand at apple pie!
