I was born and raised in a small farm town called Hoosick Falls on the border of New York and Vermont. When I wasn’t working at my family’s tree nursery, I was either fishing, hiking, or training in the sport of wrestling.
In high school, I discovered my passion for teaching and coaching through helping my peers in the classroom and on the mat. Due to the excellent education and New York state title I gained, I went on to study and compete at Columbia University. During my four years at Columbia, I assisted wrestling teammates with Spanish, math, and economics, as well as weight training, wrestling, and nutrition. When I went home for summer break, I tutored and coached children in my rural town and in Albany, New York.
After graduating with degrees in economics and political science, I chose to focus my efforts towards the community. Teaching has been rewarding for me because it allows me to witness the positive effect of learning on a student’s confidence, expectations, and attitude. Seeing people develop a better view of the world and their role in it is the driving force behind why I teach. I especially enjoy teaching math because it not only creates professional opportunities but also practical skills such as logic and decision-making. I believe that being able to find answers to life’s questions is essential no matter where you live or what you do.
