Emma Thomas

Academic Tutor

I believe that every day is a new day to grow and become a better version of yourself. I have taken the 1% strategy to heart and each day work on improving a skill I want to be successful at. This is the way I approach challenges, and I hope to inspire my students to do the same. It may not seem like a monumental change, but you will be 1% better than the last day, and over time you will see the compounded change.

I grew up in Washington, the Evergreen State, full of greenery, exquisite mountains, and cozy rainy days. I attended Redmond High School before moving to the Bay Area to attend Saint Mary’s College of California to complete my B.S. in allied health science. I have had a wonderful education that gave me a strong foundation in math, biology, psychology, and chemistry, and I had an opportunity to be a part of Saint Mary’s St Luke’s Pre-Health Society.

I began teaching while volunteering in the Oakland school system. The hours I spent working with children sparked my passion for guiding others through their academic challenges. I assisted in many different classrooms and settings, but I spent much of my time working in ESL classes and helping children who were falling behind. Before AJ Tutoring, I tutored students from elementary school to high school, and now I specialize in teaching algebra. This unique community and the one-on-one tutoring environment allows me to help build students’ confidence and abilities while catering to their specific learning styles.

Happy Parents and Students

The most helpful part of my tutoring was being taught techniques for approaching difficult questions as well as getting detailed and thorough explanations for concepts I was unclear on.   Read what others are saying
