Halah Darwazeh

Team Leader

For my undergraduate career, I attended UC Berkeley, where I received bachelor’s degrees in English and French and a minor in creative writing. In addition, I hold two master’s degrees, one in humanities and social thought from New York University and one in comparative literature from UCLA.

During my time at UCLA, I worked for six years as a teaching fellow and instructor for the University writing requirement. During this time, I developed a teaching philosophy that prioritizes the approach of a holistic education. When working with a student, I believe that it is important to recognize and develop both the student’s strengths and their weaknesses, and to use those strengths to help students succeed even in the face of challenges. My goal is for my students to consider our tutoring sessions a comfortable environment where they feel safe and happy, states that are necessary for taking in and retaining new information.

At AJ Tutoring, I specialize in guiding students through their test preparation journeys. As part of holistic learning, I believe that it’s important not only for students to memorize the content knowledge, but also to understand when and why to employ concepts, techniques, and testing strategies. Whether they’re mastering the tricks of the test or reviewing key content, I want my students to walk away feeling confident in their abilities and their understanding of the demands of the test.
