Education has had a profound influence on my life. For much of my life, school was a struggle for me, and overcoming this barrier and finding success in my studies was a great accomplishment. Those experiences inspired me to pursue a career in education: I want to not only share the passion and enthusiasm I developed for math and physics, but also help students who face the types of challenges I did find success and meet their goals.

I was born and raised in San Francisco, California, and attended Burlingame High School. It wasn’t until college that my love and passion for math and physics took off. Once I finally mastered math, applying it to physics was a joy. Using the language of the universe to describe physical phenomena was a great pleasure. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of California, Berkeley, with a major in physics.

After graduating, I gained experience as a high school math and physics teacher. I learned to tailor a lesson plan for a specific student to meet their needs, and I found it immensely rewarding to watch my students grow both academically and as people. I also found that knowing the pitfalls of the material helps me be a better teacher because I can anticipate where a student is likely to struggle.

My teaching philosophy is that anyone can succeed in math and physics. A lot of students do not have a good relationship with math, and that makes learning physics impossible. I impress upon my students the understanding that math may be challenging, but it is possible to succeed through practice and awareness of how and why we do what we do. Math is more than just memorizing certain formulas and properties! I enjoy helping my math and physics students explore the applications of the material they learn to our world.

My interests outside of education are playing guitar, crabbing, fishing, playing darts, cooking, exercising, and attending live music concerts.
