Growing up in Modesto, CA, I always found joy in learning. I remember asking my teachers for extra work because I finished all the assignments so quickly. After a while, my teachers stopped giving me extra work and instead asked me to help my peers. With a strong passion for education, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to help others develop a love for life-long learning too.
Since then, I have successfully tutored students in all subjects from kindergarten through twelfth grade, in study skills, in English, on the SAT and ACT, and in basic finance. I’ve helped many students and their families in providing customized tutoring services. In addition to tutoring, I have experience in recruitment and enrollment management, academic and career counseling, and educational research. My vast experience includes working with the Ministry of Education in Southeast Asia to build K-8 curriculum, as well as with several colleges, including UCLA Extension, where I worked with traditional students and adult learners.
At AJ Tutoring, I specialize in teaching study skills and in helping elementary and middle school students develop the fundamental skills, in all subjects, that will help them succeed moving forward in their education. I help my students incorporate positive habits into their learning, master the fundamentals of math, develop their reading comprehension skills, and find their voice in their writing.
I believe that every student can achieve success, and that an individualized approach is the most effective way to learn. I provide hands on learning through application of academic strategies and techniques. I am a strong advocate for education, and I’m a firm believer in the power of education to transform lives. I earned a B.A. in psychology from UC Davis, an MBA from UOP, and I’m currently pursuing an Ed.D in educational leadership at Saint Mary’s.
