Test Prep & Academic Tutor

Growing up in Ventura County, school was always at the center of my community. It was no wonder I wanted to teach since I was in first grade. I was lucky to grow up with teachers who were passionate about their profession and wanted to see their students shine. I knew one day I’d like to do the same.

In high school I realized my love for writing. One teacher in particular pointed out my abilities and gave me the confidence I needed to grow my skills further. English and history courses quickly became my favorites, and in my senior year I joined the student journalism team, led by a history teacher. Suddenly, my passion for writing would incorporate the true stories of people who lived before me.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in English from California State University, Channel Islands. It was there I conducted my first oral history and learned how historical events shape human experiences on a deeply personal level. After, I began the history graduate program at California State University, Fullerton, where I earned my MA. I started this journey thinking I would become a college professor, but public history caught my eye. Public history, particularly working in museums, gave me the opportunity to teach directly to the public. I found a whole new way to combine my desire to teach with my passion for writing and sharing history.

This experience also developed a new passion for me—working with people. I sought out opportunities to help classmates with writing assignments, teach classrooms as a graduate assistant, and conduct special lectures with our Student Historian organization. After I graduated, I was brought to the Bay Area to work for a well-known family business to create their company museum and help them write and publish a book telling their 150-year-long story. Though I loved this work, I missed teaching, so I began tutoring high school students, particularly in literature and essay writing. Through all my experiences in academics, one thing has remained consistent: my desire to share knowledge with others and help them thrive in their own goals.

When I am not tutoring, I enjoy reading, writing, catching up on current events, learning fun facts on podcasts, and trying new recipes with my husband.
