Though a Bay Area native, I spent my undergraduate career at UCLA. While soaking in the wondrous availability of sunny beaches and late-night burritos, I pursued a double-major in neuroscience and gender studies. Through this experience, I learned the importance of educational diversity: exposure to both science and humanities has equipped me with critical reasoning skills applicable in every stage of my career. Out of necessity, I also developed crucial organizational and study habits, enabling me to churn out thoughtful essays while memorizing (seemingly infinite) scores of brain nuclei.
Since returning to San Carlos, I’ve focused my efforts on helping students achieve their own academic goals. As someone who is intimately familiar with the Bay Area’s ultra-competitive milieu, I aim to help students build comprehension and confidence throughout their educational journey. I find that most students feel overwhelmed by the pressure surrounding the SAT and ACT, along with their sheer length. Though once upon a time I too feared these dreaded tests, I mastered how to tackle them with methodical accuracy. Accordingly, I equip my students with valuable tools to navigate the test while countering its predictable hurdles. My own success on the SAT has enabled me to fulfill my college dreams, and I strive to facilitate that success in each and every one of my students.
My background as an educator began in high school, when I tutored children in math and English at a local learning center. During college, I volunteered to tutor refugee families in these subjects as well, which presented the exciting challenge of having to tailor a curriculum to both toddlers and parents. In addition, I am well-versed in the art of essay editing; I have helped both of my siblings achieve the elusive humble-yet-impressive personal statement.
My past experiences have reinforced the importance of an individualized educational approach. I find it essential to assess each student’s strengths, weaknesses, and study style in order to successfully reorient them towards life-long improvement. I have particular success at breaking down intimidating concepts to remedy content gaps with meaningful comprehension. In addition, I build my students’ confidence by equipping them with tried-and-true study skills.
When I’m not tutoring at the San Carlos office, I like to explore local trails, experiment with vegan baking (it’s a mixed bag), and dance skillessly to live music.
