Ranna Zahabi

Academic Tutor

I grew up in the Bay Area, and I was a student at AJ Tutoring myself! I attended Saratoga High School and having the extra support with tutoring helped me understand the value of teaching and learning. I feel that one of the reasons I was so successful was because of the support I received. Having kind and knowledgeable tutors allowed me to accomplish my goal of getting into a competitive UC school.

During my college years at UC Santa Barbara, I loved to spend my free time reading and writing by the coast. I majored in History of Public Policy where my coursework focused on analyzing community issues and the ways that legislation works at various levels of the government.  It was an enriching experience where I was guided by many supportive professors and faculty. Because of my wonderful experiences with them, I developed a passion for lifelong learning. This is a tenant I work to pass on to all the students I work with.

Before working at AJ, I worked in science communications. I participated in a myriad of roles from creative storytelling to seafloor mapping. I enjoy learning and working in an interdisciplinary environment. These experiences in my previous career also help in my current teaching practice. Connecting subjects to one another, leaning into strengths as a student, and not shying away from weaknesses are important to my teaching philosophy. Developing confidence is a critical component to my approach. I live to watch students light up!

I am also a big soccer and ice hockey fan. (Go Sharks!) When my head is not in a book, I am usually on the go. Whether it is trail running, rock climbing, or swimming, I love to spend time outdoors with my dog Flower.

Happy Parents and Students

"I liked how many practice problems we did. Also the scheduling was nice since it was weekly session. Many reps and weekly meetings helped my grade increase 20% from 1st to 2nd semester."   Read what others are saying
