Growing up as the second child in a family of four, I always took care of my younger siblings and cousins. Helping and nurturing others has always been in my nature, so I set out to pursue a path where I can truly take care of people in my community.
After graduating with honors Summa Cum Laude with my bachelor’s degree in humanities and pre-medicine, my desire to give back to my community led me to tutoring. I am very grateful to the mentors and teachers I had during my schooling, and I wanted to offer that same support to young students in their education.
As a child, I was very shy and timid, so when my high school biology teacher asked me to start a tutoring group, I was very anxious. Much to my surprise, I really enjoyed helping others learn and it benefited me in so many ways. I master the material myself by teaching others, and I gained confidence in my own abilities. This experience helped me step outside my comfort zone and go on to become a teacher’s assistant for my performing arts center in ballet, modern dance, and traditional West African dance. I also had the pleasure of assisting in a sixth grade classroom during my senior year of high school. I helped with class activities and supported students one-on-one.
At AJ Tutoring, I incorporate the skills I developed through these experiences to tailor each lesson to my student. It is my experience and my belief that every student learns differently, and it is my job to support their individual learning style.
Outside of work, I love to dance; am a big fan of anime, K-pop, and K-dramas; stay active by hiking, going to the gym, or starting my days with yoga; and am a huge foodie.
