I’ve always loved to learn. Growing up in the suburbs south of Chicago, I enjoyed going to school and spent most of my free time reading. In college, I had the opportunity to work in the library and be a TA in the history department. After graduating with my degree in history and political studies, I spent a few years in Korea teaching English abroad and had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of students, ranging from elementary school children to businessmen learning English in order to work abroad. This experience set me on the path of seeking a career in education..
In addition to my experiences as a tutor for test preparation, history, math, and study skills, I also spent several years working in corporate learning & development before returning to tutoring, where I have a direct impact on students every day. Building relationships with students and their parents is important to me. I strive to connect with students to better understand their learning preferences and how to connect the learning material to things they already care about. I also take care to discern when my student needs motivation and encouragement to persevere, or when they need a challenge to reach greater heights.
I believe that any subject can be incredibly interesting if someone passionate explains it. It’s for this reason that I’ve come to regularly listen to podcasts ( many hosts are passionate experts in their field) and that I enjoy working as a tutor. In every session with students, I approach it with genuine enthusiasm for the content to create a supportive learning atmosphere for students to thrive, and some of my proudest moments as a tutor have been when a student realizes that they not only are able to comprehend the material, but also have come to actually enjoy the subject.
In my free time, I love working out and expanding my knowledge via podcasts about health-related topics.
