You took the tests, and turned in the assignments, and now its time to celebrate with friends and family before you transition into the next phase of your life. We asked our team here at AJ for some advice, wishes and more for this years graduating senior!
Advice Abounds
“Don’t think about “what you want to be when you grow up?”…instead consider “what problem do I want to improve or solve in the world?”-James Backlund
“Be open to new experiences — that can mean reading new kinds of books, traveling to new places, or even exploring opportunities in your neighborhood that you never had time for before. This may be one of the few opportunities to be “unscheduled,” and having that reflection time is really helpful (and can get you excited about college starting)!”-Jessica Embrey
“Don’t pray for an easy life, pray to be strong.”-AJ Staff Member
“Get to know your professors, go to office hours, speak up!”-Dipti Dedhia
“Keep an open mind as you embark on the next journey.”-Nieka Bright PhD
“Everyone you meet has something to teach you.”-AJ Staff Member
“10 years from now, you probably won’t remember your SAT score, and which AP classes you took will start to get a little hazy. College is often your last best chance to explore widely – even if you want to be a physician, why not try an Anthropology class? Even if you want to go to law school, try intro to Econ. Always been curious about the night skies but never had the time to study astronomy? Now you do.”-Chris Dunlap
“ Learn to appreciate the value in those different from yourself. It’s easy to fall into groups of individuals with shared backgrounds, shared skills, or shared goals. These are helpful and important, but we have the most to learn from those we have the list in common with.” Andrew Schor
“Put yourself out there and say yes! You can try anything you want, and if you don’t like it, then don’t do it!”-Peggy Taylor
Go enjoy your graduation and remember that the team here at AJ continues to be by your side as you transition into college!
