Course Description:

Origami is the ancient Japanese art of paper folding. Although it came from simple origins, origami in the past few decades has become extremely complex. Students will be evaluated on their skill level and learn how to advance their origami to the next level.

Beginner and intermediate students will focus on how to fold. They will master the basic folding techniques, such as reverse folds, squash folds, rabbit ear folds, and sink folds, and practice folding origami models incorporating them. We will also explore and practice with various options of paper available to fold as-is.

Advanced students will learn to create their own paper using materials that can be bought locally, including strengthening tissue paper with acrylic paint and creating double tissue paper. Then they will learn how to breathe life into their creations through wet folding. Lastly, they will explore design documentation, crease patterns and how to read and fold them, and the basics of designing their own origami.
