There is nothing more satisfying than solving a problem you were stuck on. Finding that missing piece of the puzzle can often complete a picture you didn’t know existed and reveal patterns or applications across disciplines. I find this part of education to be the most meaningful, as it is the most tangible and rewarding aspect of self growth.
At Santa Clara University, where I received my computer science degree, I learned the importance of having a good teacher. My best professors had the ability to explain a concept clearly and in adaptable terms to fit the level of their students, making a complex topic digestible. I try to embody these traits and incorporate them into my own teaching strategy.
In college, I tutored classmates who struggled with the material. Additionally, as a professional table tennis player, I coached young adults in table tennis. Whether in sports or academics, I find it rewarding to support students in meeting their goals and developing good study habits.
I strongly believe that it is important to never stop learning and challenging oneself. To learn efficiently, one must be intentional, adaptive, and reflective. I value epistemic strategies and their applications as both an educator and a learner, which makes me an efficient and passionate tutor. These strategies extend past specific academic subjects and also involve study skills, time management, and organization. At AJ Tutoring, I work with my calculus students both to master the complex topics addressed in their classes and to improve these broader skills.
