I first discovered my love for teaching in undergrad, where I volunteered and taught science and math to students from low-income communities in Mumbai, India. This experience taught me the power of one-on-one tutoring and of drawing from things that a student is familiar with to explain difficult and abstract concepts. I find it very rewarding to see a child’s eyes light up as they experience an “a-ha” moment.
I was born and raised in India, where I completed my schooling. I also pursued my undergraduate and master’s degrees in India. Thereafter, I came to the U.S. to pursue an M.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Kent State University, Ohio. I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. My experience with different education systems has molded my understanding of various teaching and learning styles.
I enjoy working with children and adolescents. Prior to joining the AJ Team, I had worked as a teaching assistant and associate teacher for toddlers and preschool children and as a mental health counselor, and in each of those roles, what I found to be most effective is a student-centric approach. I strongly believe that trust, warmth, and the comfort a student has with a teacher are important for creating a successful learning environment.
My teaching philosophy is that one size does not fit all and customization is essential. My goal is to meet students where they are and help them discover and build on their strengths and abilities, feel confident, believe in themselves, and thereby accomplish their goals. It is my endeavor to customize learning in a way that not only makes sense, but also makes learning fun, engaging, and meaningful.
In my free time, I enjoy cooking, hiking, and crocheting, and I am also an avid reader and animal lover.
