Updates and Resources from AJ Tutoring

Our Professional Academic and Test Prep Tutors Are Now Online!

Online Tutoring

AJ Tutoring is open for business and continuing to work with students in an online format. Given new county health mandates to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus), we have shifted to exclusively online tutoring, effective immediately, until the shelter in place order is lifted. The health and safety of our students and their families, our tutors and staff, and our larger Bay Area community is our number one priority.

Practice Tests and Group SAT Classes

At this time, our in-person practice SAT and ACT tests have been canceled until the shelter in place order is lifted, and families will receive instructions on how to proctor tests at home. Our small group SAT classes have moved to online instruction.

New Students

We are still accepting new students! If your student’s school is closed, we’re happy to work with them online to keep them on track with their schoolwork and build a strong foundation for future SAT and ACT tests. Please give us a call at (650) 331-3251 or fill out a consultation request form, and one of our directors will be in touch to make a plan to continue your student’s education in this unprecedented time.

Effective and Engaging Online Sessions

Online tutoring continues to be available at AJ Tutoring. Your tutor will reach out, if they have not already done so, to confirm and identify next steps for a virtual plan. (If you don’t have a tutor, get in touch with us today!)

We have extensive experience providing remote instruction and have assembled a remote teaching toolkit to ensure all of our tutors can continue to provide the high quality lessons you expect to maintain normalcy and stability for your student in this unprecedented time.

Status of Standardized Tests

  • SAT and SAT subject tests:  The March, May, and June SAT and SAT subject test administrations have been canceled. The next SAT and SAT subject test administration will take place in August, followed by testing dates in September, October, November, and December 2020. If schools are not open in fall 2020, the College Board will offer an online, at-home version of the SAT.

  • AP exams:  The College Board announced on March 20 that AP exams will take place this year, but in a different format. AP tests will be 45 minute free-response exams taken online, at students’ homes. AP exams will only test topics typically covered in class by early March.

  • ACT:  The April 4 ACT administration has been canceled. All students who were registered for the April 4 ACT will receive an email from the ACT in the next week providing instructions for free rescheduling to June 13 or a future test date.

Academic Tutoring During School Closures

Even though school campuses are closed right now, learning doesn’t need to stop. Our academic tutors are here to support your student!

Student at Laptop

If your student’s school offers an extensive remote learning program, our academic tutors can help your student manage the increased workload and executive functioning skills needed to succeed in a 100% online environment.

Many Bay Area schools are still holding class as usual through Zoom and other online platforms. While it’s great that these students can virtually “attend” their classes, the online environment poses a serious challenge to high schoolers’ intrinsic motivation, self-discipline, and executive functioning skills. Beyond the logistical challenges of online learning, it may also be harder for students to master the new content they’re expected to learn.

AJ Tutoring’s professional academic tutors can help your student stay on track with their classes through regular weekly online tutoring sessions and customized support for your student’s classes!

If your student’s school is closed and not delivering online instruction, our academic tutors can teach your student what they need to know to master this school year’s classes and stay on track for next year.

We know how important it is for students to get a solid understanding of this year’s coursework before they move on to next year. Students may struggle in a class like precalculus, for example, when their foundations in algebra and geometry are weak. Mastering this year’s material will be an especially acute challenge for students whose school is currently closed.

Our academic tutors are experts in the subjects they teach, and with regular weekly sessions we can help your student finish the school year feeling confident in their knowledge and ready for next year.
