Alicia Tayebi

Team Leader, Test Prep and Academic Tutor

A native Michigander, I attended Michigan State University, where I knew I wanted to pursue a degree that would allow me to incorporate my love of languages and people. I graduated with a B.A in Elementary Education with minors in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Geography and a specialization in Asian Studies.

I went on to teach English as a Second Language at a school district of growing diversity, with families from more than 20 countries. I enjoyed every moment of making connections with children who were struggling to learn and express themselves in a new language and providing them a safe space where they could feel comfortable and confident. By taking the time to get to know my students as individuals, I am better able to help them to connect the dots, come to meaningful understandings, and get to the “ah-ha” moments that all teachers seek.

Throughout my time as a university student and then educator, tutoring became of growing importance to me, until I decided to transition from teaching to tutoring full-time. As a tutor, it is my hope to instill in all of my students a love of learning, confidence in themselves, and a sense of wonder.

Still a fairly new resident of California, I enjoy getting out and exploring all the beauty this state has to offer, so feel free to give me any recommendations of impressive sights to see, awe-inspiring trails to hike, or delicious and interesting restaurants to try!

For almost as long as I can remember, I have enjoyed learning languages, and the cultures, foods, and traditions of the people who come with them. I have spent time learning French, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, and most recently, Farsi. Beyond my linguistic love, I am also passionate about promoting cultural awareness — particularly by way of food. So, when I have the time, I am an avid cook and baker (and eater), pairing together flavors from all around the globe.
