With a deep background in STEM, my passion is getting people to understand. This has meant a lot of different things during my career, but currently it means helping students in biology and algebra courses master their course content, develop strong study skills for independent learning, and discover an appreciation for the subjects. 

I earned a B.S. in chemistry from Carnegie Mellon University and hold a Ph.D. in pharmacology. I have experience teaching students of all levels, from community college students and undergraduates, to graduate and middle and high school students.

I have a genuine belief that most people can understand most things, if given the right explanations and enough patience. My philosophy in tutoring is, therefore, to meet students where they are. Understanding the learning and communication styles of students is essential to working together to foster academic growth. I especially enjoy breaking down complex ideas and translating them into digestible concepts, and I tailor the way I approach material until I find the methods that work best for each student. 

Outside of AJ Tutoring, I enjoy hiking, camping, and exploring the redwoods.
