Lee Lacanlale

Academic Tutor

I have lived most of my life in California. Even back in high school I was drawn to supporting my fellow students. I was selected by my teachers to serve as a tutor for my fellow classmates for math and science. Later I attended San Jose State University, and majored in Computer Science, with a minor in Mathematics. During college, I oversaw a computer science lab. As part of that role, I supported students on their computer science coursework.

After graduating, I worked in other fields for a few years. However, I was drawn back to tutoring. I found that I missed working with students and making an impact on their lives. I especially enjoy seeing the gleam in a student’s eyes when they make strides toward accomplishing their goals and can recognize their own success.
Students in algebra classes often have gaps in their knowledge from previous classes that can undermine their confidence in the material and their ability to succeed. My goal as a tutor is always to help fill in those gaps and ensure that students build a solid foundation for their future math courses. Watching students’ confidence grow as they realize that they actually do understand the material and can do math always makes me proud to have been part of their learning process.

Outside of tutoring, I enjoy playing tennis and basketball and watching sports.
