Michelle Ng

Test Prep & Academic Tutor

I grew up in a very small town in New Hampshire. When I moved to the Bay Area and began attending Lynbrook High School, I was surprised by how challenging and rigorous my classes were. I successfully adjusted to the new and stressful environment with the support of my wonderful teachers at Lynbrook, the faithful friends I made during my time there, and the tutors who helped me excel. From this experience, I developed a deep appreciation for the power of one-on-one education, from tutoring sessions to teacher’s office hours, which helped me succeed on the SAT and AP exams and in various classes.

Attending an intense public high school helped me transition well when I moved on to attain my Bachelor of Science in psychology with an emphasis in biology at UC Davis. During my time in college, I tutored students in biology, served as a leader and mentor for students in a campus ministry, interned at a student-run clinic for the underserved, and explored research in developmental psychology. The sum of these experiences has helped me understand not only the value of a quality education, but also the support a student needs in order to succeed in college. I aim to pass on the skills, resources, and experiences I’ve learned to my students, whether they’re working on improving in an academic biology or chemistry class or honing their test taking skills for the SAT and ACT.

I understand first-hand how much pressure high school students face in balancing academics, extracurricular activities, and their personal lives. I want to both help my students develop smart study skills and be a source of encouragement. It is such a joy to see students light up in their newfound understanding of a subject and subsequent passion for learning. From my teaching experiences, I recognize that students come from diverse backgrounds and have unique learning styles. I believe it is essential to genuinely connect with my students, listen to their needs, and tailor lessons accordingly to meet their goals.

In my free time, I love finding new recipes and enjoying houseplants, books, and music.
