Peter Coe

Test Prep Tutor

I grew up in Los Altos, and as the son of a Stanford School of Education Ph.D. student and NASA researcher, science was an integral part of my childhood. Upon attending Los Altos High School, however, I decided to broaden my academic interests and focus on the humanities. Following my love for problem-solving, I pursued a bachelor’s degree in political science at the University of California, Berkeley. My Berkeley experience engendered a passion for public policy and law. Accordingly, I took the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) and scored in the 99th percentile.

My experience teaching began when I was fifteen years old. As a freshman at Los Altos High School, I tutored at Almond Elementary School twice a week. Additionally, as a level 10 gymnast (the highest level for boys’ gymnastics), I taught younger athletes at Stanford Boys Gymnastics. Then, during my freshman year of college, I took a class in education pedagogy. This curriculum greatly improved my teaching skills as we studied learning theory and taught international students. I continued tutoring English until I graduated from UC Berkeley.

After graduation, I started tutoring with LSATMax before coming to AJ Tutoring. As an test preparation tutor, I recognize that test-taking is a skill. My goal as a tutor is to help students to understand what the exam is testing and how to tackle problems, and to refine test-taking strategies. I also believe that test-taking is a medium for learning life skills. Through academic guidance, I aim to help students plan for their goals, analyze their thought processes, and excel under pressure.

In addition to tutoring, I love rock climbing, surfing, and playing fetch with my golden retriever. Intermittently, I return to the gymnastics gym to play around on the high bar and trampolines.
